SPEAR & DEER

Cast and blast hunts are a lot of fun - we offer one ourselves for clapper rail and speckled trout. But most of the time, it’s more of a bird hunting thing than a big game thing. Not everybody is a Renaissance man when it comes to hunting, and if you’re ate up with big game, then fishing may not do it for you.

Spearfishing, on the other hand, is simply hunting underwater. Sometimes the hunt feels like small game or wingshooting; other times will unequivocally scratch the big game itch. When your dive float is plunging into the abyss or towing you along at trolling speed; when you have to dispatch a green cobia that’s spinning like a top; when you’re kicking to the surface and you’re stopped by a big grouper’s second wind. There’s nothing small game about that.

The big game hunter’s Cast & Blast

The best beginner Spear & Deer camp can be had right here in Virginia, where we can enjoy cold water diving on the calm days and on the nastier ones bowhunt for whitetail or sika.

Overseas, it’s a little different. It’s not enough for a location to have the option of spearing and hunting; both need to be reasonably achievable to be make a good Spear & Deer combo. The trick is budgeting enough time to experience both in a single trip without detracting from either. We look for hunts that take 4-5 days and are less than 2 hours from the coastline. Check out our options below, and if you have an idea for a combo that you don’t see here, then just drop us a line. We’ll let you know how many days you’ll need, or if it makes more sense to plan 2 separate trips instead.
